Alexander Maxwell, resident of this place (Darlington) for many years, died at his home here Friday morning at 5:30 o'clock following an illness of several month's duration. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr. Maxwell was born in Marion County on June 11, 1860 the son of Caswell and Mary Maxwell. He was married March 24, 1888 to Miss Minnie Sheffler. He was a member of the Christian Congregational church and of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias lodges. He was always an active worker in the Democratic party and was a precinct committeeman at the time of his death. The survivors include the wife, Mrs. Minnie Maxwell; two daughters, Miss Carrie Maxwell at home; Mrs. Amy Williams of Darlington; nine sons, Austin and Walter, of Darlington; Fred of Kirklin; Clarence, a sailor stationed at San Diego, Cal; and Elmer, Ralph, Lawrence and Byril all at home; a sister, Mrs. Amanda Steffler of Anderson; four brothers, Jack, George and Tom all of near Smartsburg and Ed of Thorntown; 28 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Another son died in infancy. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Christian Congregregational church. Burial is in Darlington Odd Fellows.

Note: Caswell is a Maxwell family name - many have that for the first or middle name but most go by one of their other names, including my grandson Quentin :) kz
